Sofa steam cleaning, known in the trade as hot water extraction, sprays heated water and a cleaning solution deep into the fabric, then immediately vacuums it back out along with the dirt, body oils, allergens, and odours it has loosened. It reaches what vacuuming and spot cleaning can't: the grime that works its way into the padding over years of use.
It's the method we use for most fabric sofas, couches, and corner sofas across Dublin. Because the dirty water is extracted rather than left to soak in, the sofa isn't saturated, and most are dry within 2-4 hours.
We read the care label code (W, S, WS, or X) to confirm the fabric can take moisture
Loose dust, crumbs, and pet hair come out first so they don't turn to mud
Stains and high-contact spots like armrests and headrests are treated first
Heated water and solution go in and are extracted straight back out with the dirt
The fabric pile is brushed back into place so it dries evenly
For most fabric sofas, yes. We check the care label before starting: W or WS means water-based cleaning is fine, while S (solvent only) or X (vacuum only) means steam isn't suitable, and we'll tell you that before any work begins. Usually 2-4 hours. Because we extract as much water as possible, the sofa is damp to the touch rather than wet. Opening a window or turning the heating on speeds it up.
